Creating Meaningful Impact
Since our launch 40 years ago, the Starting Place Preschool has worked tirelessly to promote affordable and interactive learning for preschool aged children in our region. We are fortunate to have parents and volunteers from all walks of life who bring their unique expertise and resources into everything we do. This is what enables us to achieve our goals year after year, providing the best service to our families.
While there is always more that can be done, there is no doubt that we are making a significant impact on children and families in our region. We don’t measure our success through just facts and figures, but through happy faces and heartwarming feedback.

Get to Know Mrs. B!
I moved to Fort McMurray in the spring of April 1991, during that time I met my husband. Terry and I have raised an amazing family in Beacon Hill. Our children even has the privilege of attending the Starting Place Preschool before I stepped in to this amazing program. The years have gone by so fast and our children are all grown adults, learning to create their own path in life.

Since I was very young I have enjoyed working with children of all ages. In 1995 I started my adventure at Keyano College, learning all about children and the amazing ways to help them learn and grow. In 2015 I completes my adventure in Early Children Learning. Terry has told me many times that he is sure my quest for knowledge isn't over and he can find me back at college seeking more to support the growth of children.

I started my position with the Starting Place Preschool in 2004. I have spent many amazing years supporting, caring, and creating with the many families I have met. It is a joy working for a community-based program and non-for-profit that supports not just the growth of our children but the community and all of Fort McMurray.

This amazing preschool could not be here if it wasn't for all of our outstanding parents during this time as well as all of the other directors. If it wasn't for all our parents and volunteers, this preschool would not be here. Thank you on behalf of all of us for giving Starting Place Preschool such an amazing heart.

Get to Know Mrs. Jones!
Hello, my name is Lacey Jones. I have lived in Fort McMurray for 12 years and have made this my home for myself, my husband Nico, and two daughters - Jorja and Jaya. Originally I am from Newfoundland, where I grew up surrounded by family who we still visit yearly. Caring for children has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember, so fresh out of high school I ventured to Fort McMurray to continue my knowledge on children at Keyano college, where I graduated with my diploma in 2013. Since then I have gained experience at Children First, the YMCA, and of course Motherhood. Aside from working with children, my interests and hobbies are anything and everything animal related and also camping! My family and I spend every spare minute we can at our home away from home in Wandering River, enjoying the great outdoors. I am so excited to be working here at Starting Place Preschool and look forward to learning alongside your children.
